President of the Ethiopian Parliament Abadolla Jamda confirmed the existence of agreements between the Saudi and Ethiopian governments to recruit domestic labor to work in the Kingdom legally following certain conditions.
Commenting on the issue of Ethiopian maids in the Kingdom, he said that the illegal entry of Ethiopian nationals was not condoned by the Ethiopian government. He also said that the Ethiopian Embassy in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs was deporting maids who refused to abide by the Kingdom’s laws, adding that the Ethiopian government is working hard to improve its image internationally especially after the widespread crimes involving its nationals.
He confirmed the deep relations between his country and the Kingdom, saying that it is a relationship steeped in history which goes back thousands of years.
